The Lions and their endeavour to be woodenspooners

When anyone look at the way the Lions play in the Super 14 you get the idea that they really want to be the woodenspooners. Then you can also question the team selection by their coach. Clearly someone like Jaco van Schalkwyk hasn’t got the ability to read the game in the 15 man version. His playing style is still the same as his days in the 7’s series. He is extremely predictable in the way he kicks the ball away when they get close to the opposition 22. I can only wonder why the coach hasn’t either talked to him or got himself a proper flyhalf. Then there is Joe van Niekerk, he may have played decent rugby at some stage, but this is clearly not the case anymore. While he is doing his thing on the field they keep a very talented player, Willem Alberts on the bench. I can only hope that they get their team sorted out before the Currie Cup.
