Final Score: 34 – 19 to Australia

This was an excellent game to watch. Good performance by Australia coupled with an average performance by New Zealand. Brad Thorn once again showed his type of play in the opening minutes of the games, with referee Craig Joubert sending him to the sin bin.

It was a very good performance by Craig Joubert following the dismal performance by Stuart Dickinson in the game between the Springboks and New Zealand

The fiasko surrounding Jimmy Cowan and the alledged blood bin replacement will receive some media attention this week.

Then there is a question mark around the early tackle which could’ve resulted in a try for the All Blacks.

The best of the game is the commentary of Phil Kearns, or as he would put it himself “Rubbish Commentary”

Victor Matfield is set to join his old teammates again on the 1st of July 2008. His 6 month contract at Toulon comes to an end then (with the option to continue). He has however now signed with the Bulls till October 2011. His services will certainly come in handy for the struggling Bulls.

Matfield has been named the worlds most valuable player and has been part of the Springbok squad since 2001. Together with Bakkies Botha they have become the worlds best lock partnership.

When anyone look at the way the Lions play in the Super 14 you get the idea that they really want to be the woodenspooners. Then you can also question the team selection by their coach. Clearly someone like Jaco van Schalkwyk hasn’t got the ability to read the game in the 15 man version. His playing style is still the same as his days in the 7′s series. He is extremely predictable in the way he kicks the ball away when they get close to the opposition 22. I can only wonder why the coach hasn’t either talked to him or got himself a proper flyhalf. Then there is Joe van Niekerk, he may have played decent rugby at some stage, but this is clearly not the case anymore. While he is doing his thing on the field they keep a very talented player, Willem Alberts on the bench. I can only hope that they get their team sorted out before the Currie Cup.
